The idea of the project took shape
at the end of the school year 1997/98 after administering some standardised test
in Italian and Maths in the Primary School and a framework for teachers’
self-analysis of own teaching.
The research group, consisting of
school heads and co-ordinated by Inspector Silvana Mosca, M.I.U.R., Regional
School Office, administered the tests in more than 20 classes of Year 5,
involving over 400 pupils, with the supervision of the University of Torino. The
results of the tests immediately raised interest in that several common positive
and also negative trends were enlightened, thus increasing the reflection on the
“school system” in general, on the relationship between planning, teaching
methodologies and children capabilities, on INSET needs for all teachers.
Since 1998/99 the number of schools
involved increased and the network was established.
Every year our tests involve over
3500 pupils of Year 4 and 5 and of the second year of lower secondary schools,
in more than 200 classes in 33 schools. Our program also includes other
activities that contribute to a more complete school self-evaluation.
